Victoria International Marina

“Victoria Harbour...will be developed as a mixed-use harbour that provides: a haven for ships and boats; a sea transportation and cargo terminal; a base for maritime and water dependant industries; a stimulating living environment; and, community access for enjoyment and celebration.” City of Victoria Official Community Plan

We need your support – Public Hearing, Tuesday, Sept 7, 2010

It’s time to let Victoria City Council know that many of Victoria’s residents enjoy marinas - and that the City’s businesses and residents support developments that will bring economic, social and environmental benefits to the region.

We need your voice and your support at the public hearing taking place at Victoria City Hall on Tuesday, September 7, 2010 at 5 p.m.

Despite approvals for the marina from Transport Canada and NAV CANADA, Victoria City Council is trying to re-zone the water lots where the Victoria International Marina is to be situated. The change in zoning will substantially reduce the amount of water space available for the marina, negatively impacting the marina’s viability and its associated benefits.

First and second readings of the motion to rezone have taken place. Victoria’s Mayor and City Council MUST now hear from any and all proponents who support the marina development.

The Victoria International Marina project has gained approvals from every regulatory body that has reviewed it. It will be one of the most modern, environmentally-friendly and beautiful marina projects in the world - and it will be a valuable addition to Victoria’s middle harbour.

If you are not able to make the meeting, please express your sentiments to the “Mayor and Council” via email at: mayor@victoria.ca.

We hope to see you next week.

Responsive to community concerns

The Victoria International Marina provides an environmentally-friendly moorage option to Victoria’s working harbour, bringing community benefits to residents and the economies of both Victoria and Vancouver Island.

Throughout this website, you will find facts about the proposed marina development and the environment, the local economy, and approval processes. We have also provided answers to common myths about the project and address topics such as boat size and scale and safety.

We hope that you will review these facts to become more informed about the project and decide for yourself whether you support it. The Victoria International Marina development team is ready to answer any questions or address any concerns you may have about the proposed marina.

Project Facts:

  • The marina will be open to everyone and will offer sea-side walking paths on the docks, a restaurant, coffee house, and marine-related businesses. There is no pub proposed.
  • The 52-slip marina will have moorage for yachts from 65 feet to 135 feet long, and  60 per cent of the slips will be dedicated to yachts 80 feet or under.
  • The 65-foot slip size was requested by Transport Canada who stated that it would be impossible to accomodate smaller ships because they could not safely cross the major shipping lane to access the marina.
  • The City of Victoria’s Official Community Plan has called for a marina at this location for the past 20 years.
  • The Province of B.C. Crown Water Lot has been zoned fo a marina fo over 20 years.
