Victoria International Marina joins Clean Marine BC program

We’re excited to advise that we’ve joined the Georgia Strait Alliance’s Clean Marine program - a voluntary environmental recognition program for marinas, harbour authorities, yacht clubs and boatyards in BC.

Clean Marine BC recognizes the vital importance of maintaining a clean natural environment as being fundamental to its activities.

We’re the first marina to enroll in the program before being built, and we intend to design and build our marina to the highest environmental standards - including those set by GSA’s Clean Marina Program.

Our marina development plans include innovative elements designed to improve the environment such as:

  • restoring 1,500 square meters of seabed to natural sediment by removing wood waste and mud deposited by decades of log booming,
  • providing a mixed gravel and cobble rock seabed with new hard surfaces for colonization of marine seaweeds, marine invertebrates, and fish,
  • providing sewage hook-ups for every boat slip, transferring sewage directly to municipal mains for disposal and
  • providing recycling and garbage collection.

This is just to name a few! For more information on the environmental benefits of the Victoria International Marina, click here.

Environmental sustainability has been the foundation of our planning. As the entire Victoria International Marina development is based on extensive environmental assessments, we’re excited to get on board with Clean Marine BC.
