"Mega-yacht" marina closer to reality
By: Frank Stanford
The proposal for a large-yacht marina in Victoria has cleared an important hurdle, with the approval of the provincial ministry of Lands.
The Ministry has announced it has offerred a tenure to Community Marine Concepts, to use a provincial water lot within the harbour for a marina.
There would be a two year licence of occupation initially, to take the project through its construction phase, and then a 45 year lease would be finalized.
The marina still requires approval of the federal government. The Departments of Transport and Fisheries & Oceans say they're unable to guess when they'll be ready to announce a decision on a Navigable Waters Permit.
Last September Victoria Council approved a re-zoning that would allow a project of about half the size that had been proposed.
