Opinion: Public views ignored on marina

Re: "Marina project seeks approval for commercial buildings," Aug. 16.

Is democracy dead? Seven thousand people signed a petition condemning the ill-conceived marina proposal. The mountain of letters opposing this development was the biggest response to any public issue that MP Denise Savoie has ever received.

Three previous mayors have given the marina proposal the 'thumbs down.' Community leaders, business leaders, MLAs, neighbourhood associations, paddling clubs and many local citizens have protested the development that will disfigure our harbour and desecrate the viewscapes. But despite this public outcry, all of our elected officials are giving it the green light.

When our politicians dismiss and discount public concerns and protest, it is time to remove those politicians.
