Geotechnical Site Testing
Victoria, BC -- Beginning on Monday August 29, 2011, the Victoria International Marina team will be conducting geotechnical testing on the proposed marina location.
The testing is expected to be carried out over five or six days, during which time a barge will be located on the site. The barge will arrive on site this afternoon (Sunday).
The testing will consist of six cone-penetration tests (at various locations around the proposed marina footprint) and a single test hole at Lot 4 which is located at the foot of Paul Kane Place, one of the properties owned by the Victoria International Marina.
The objective of the geotechnical testing is to gather additional detailed information on the physical properties of the site, such as the soil and rocks, in order to develop detailed foundation designs for the proposed docks and structures.
Environmental sustainability has been the foundation of the planning for this marina, which is a member of the Georgia Strait Alliance’s Clean Marine BC program. As such, the geotechnical testing will be conducted by highly-qualified geotechnical engineers with the utmost respect to the environment.
