Update: City of Victoria Public Hearing
On behalf of WAM Development Group, I would like to extend a sincere thank you to those who have supported the proposed Victoria International Marina to date. Your letters and voices, particularly in regard to the public hearing that took place on Tuesday, September 7, 2010, are greatly appreciated.
While Victoria City Council voted to rezone the 2.63-hectare water lot, thus limiting the area where wharves, piers and other structures can be placed, we remain committed to the site.
Council’s move reduces the footprint of the proposed marina by cutting off the edges of the site and reducing the number of viable yacht slips by almost half. Space previously allotted to provide public amenities such as kayak launch and landing docks was essentially stripped away by the Council’s reduced footprint.
While we are disappointed with the decision, we can at least now deal with certainty on the lot size and zoning and we will make the most of the space we have. We will now be working on a revised layout with approximately 28 slips.
As we wait on a response from the Provincial Government regarding our application for a Crown lease on the water lot, the plans for the restaurant, coffee shop and marine retail for the waterfront lots we own are with the City for Development Permit approval. We look forward to bringing the Victoria International Marina to the Middle Harbour for all to enjoy.
Thank you again for your support.
